James Kelly continues his Photog Adventures UK Landscape Photography Adventures from the Isle of Lewis & Harris in Scotland.
The Ilse of Lewis is a place James has been wanting to go to for a very long time! With three days on the island with his friend Bob, they clock up the miles exploring as much as they can in the short time they have.
The Ilse of Lewis is the largest island of the Western Isles or Outer Hebrides archipelago in Scotland. Despite being parts of the same island, the Isle of Lewis and Harris are often referred to as if they are separate islands. Lewis is the lower laying part while Harris is more mountainous.
James starts out this episode battling the rain to shoot some sea stacks and then moves on the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse for sunset. He heads out onto the precarious cliffs west of the lighthouse and finds a fantastic viewpoint from which to shoot. The sun looks great as the rain clouds have cleared. A band of lighter clouds behind the lighthouse turn lovely shades of pink and purple as the sun goes down below the horizon. James puts on his Lee Little Stopper to lengthen the exposure to about 13 seconds. That turns the waves that are crashing into the base of the cliffs at this most northern point of the Outer Hebrides into an ethereal mist.
