Gear Time Live 4 : Tripods, Tripods, Tripods!

Kirk Keyes Gear Time, Vlog Leave a Comment

Brendon Porter and Drew Armstrong talk about tripods! Then they talk more about tripods. And then yet more! If you think you have a lot of tripods, check out Brendon and Drew’s collection. So join us for Tripod Day on Gear Time Live!

Drew adds: Three vocabulary words I did not remember for this show. I am old and tired and only got a few hours of sleep due to the full moon.

  1. Apex – The apex is the piece that all the legs attach to. This is where you would mount your ball head if you are a landscaper. Or a center column if you are an architectural photographer.
  2. Pano Gimbal Head – Is a head that is usually indexed. They use three pieces to hook into an L Bracket on your camera to shoot multi row pianos while avoiding the parallax that might other wise occur in the foreground.
  3. Nodal Point – This is the point where the camera lens aperture or iris sits. You can place that point directly above the apex of the tripod in order to get rid of parallax that would otherwise ruin your shot.
